Sorry for the late post but these treats are great for mid-day actually! These treats are great for a snack on the go and was even made popular by Kellogs Rice Krispy Treats. In reality, they are actually very simple to make and were made even before them. Made with only a few ingredients, this treat is even greater when fresh baked!
These treats are great for the whole family and especially for your kids. Marshmallows are so nice and sweet then add in the fact that you get a different texture with the rice crisps?? YOU GOT ME SOLD SIR! Not only that but they last quite a while with the ability to customize them in ways too. It is made through rice crisps which are from brown rice which is packed with minerals and vitamins as well! Though we won't mention the sugary goodness that is marshmallows that even out the benefits LOL.... Time to start!
Ingredients
Crispy rice cereal (You can use the classic Rice Krispys by Kellogg, but there are many other choices too!)
1 or 2 bags of mini Marshmallows (or big ones if you prefer)
Butter
Vanilla Extract
Optional- Flavourings such as rosemary or brown sugar)
Recipe
Using a pot (preferably a pot that can also go in the oven), melt the butter and add any extra flavours you may want such as rosemary
Once the butter is melted add the marshmallows (keep in mind we like to a 1:1 cup ratio of marshmallow to rice cereal but for more stickiness you can a cup or two more)
Melt the marshmallows then stir in a teaspoon of vanilla extract!
Mix in the cereal/rice crisps (add more non melted marshmallows to give it an even better texture!)
In a baking tray or larger plate lined with parchment paper, put in your mixture and pat it down gently so its even but not so compacted (make sure its lined well as it makes it easier to take out and freeze)
Let it sit for a minute then you can go ahead and cut it into square sizes of your liking!
